Polypropylene fine denier filament is a subcategory of polypropylene fibers. It is made from polypropylene as raw material and produced into continuous filaments with a relatively low linear density (usually the fineness of the monofilament is less than 1.0dtex) through an improved spinning process. Compared with conventional polypropylene filaments, its finer fiber form endows the material with a more delicate touch and richer functional characteristics. It demonstrates unique advantages in fields with high requirements for texture and breathability, and is one of the important directions for the development of polypropylene fibers towards refinement and functionalization.


From the perspective of production process, the manufacturing of polypropylene fine denier filament needs to overcome the technical difficulties of conventional spinning. Firstly, high-purity and low-impurity polypropylene chips are selected as raw materials. After strict drying treatment (to avoid the formation of bubbles during spinning), they are sent into the extruder to be melted at 230-280℃. The melt is extruded through a specially designed fine-pore spinneret, which has smaller micro-pore diameters and a more uniform distribution. The melt flow rate needs to be precisely controlled to ensure the stability of the filament formation. Subsequently, a higher-speed air flow stretching (with a stretching ratio typically reaching 5 to 8 times) is adopted to refine the fibers while ensuring the orderly arrangement of molecular chains, thereby enhancing the breaking strength. Finally, after low-temperature setting and low-tension winding, the fine denier filaments are prevented from having broken ends or fuzz during processing, ensuring the uniformity and integrity of the finished filaments. During the production process, the coordinated control of spinning temperature, air flow velocity and tensile tension is the key to determining the quality of polypropylene fine denier filament.


In terms of core performance, the advantage of Polypropylene fine denier filament lies in the upgraded characteristics brought about by its "fineness". Firstly, the touch is more delicate. The fine fibers can form a denser and softer fabric structure, reducing the possible roughness of conventional polypropylene filaments and enhancing the comfort of use. Secondly, the breathability and moisture absorption have been optimized. More tiny pores are formed between the fine denier filaments, enhancing the air circulation of the fabric. Although it still retains the inherent characteristic of low moisture absorption (with a moisture regain rate of approximately 0.03%) of polypropylene, the pore structure can improve the fabric's moisture absorption and sweating efficiency, reducing the feeling of stuffiness. Thirdly, it has stronger coverage. Under the same weight, the number of fine denier fibers is greater, and the fabric made from it has a flatter surface, is less likely to show the base, and has a more uniform visual effect. In addition, it still retains the basic advantages of polypropylene, such as light density (0.91g/cm³), acid and alkali resistance, and wear resistance, while taking into account both functionality and practicality.


In terms of application scenarios, polypropylene fine denier filament is suitable for various fields that have requirements for texture. In the textile field, it can be used to make knitted underwear, sports fabrics, and infant and toddler clothing, enhancing the wearing experience with its fine touch and breathability. In the home textile field, it is suitable for home textile decorative fabrics and microfiber cleaning cloths, optimizing the appearance and usage effect with its coverage and softness. In the field of industrial textiles, it can be used as the base material for filter materials. By taking advantage of the dense pores formed by fine denier filaments, the filtration accuracy can be enhanced, making it suitable for low-concentration dust or particle filtration scenarios.
